Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is an activity that considers the whole person within their life context. It is about building relationships, raising awareness and offering an individual new choices.

You can develop skills to reflect on your situation and make sense of your life. You can learn to understand more about experiences and events that had seemed overwhelming or upsetting. These events are not forgotten; they are not removed or eliminated, instead they become part of who you want to become.

Together, with my support, you can make choices that help you to improve your emotional well-being and life situation.

 I aim to:

  • Build a trusting relationship

  • Offer a safe and confidential space

  • Facilitate increased awareness

  • Support change and progress.

I offer 1-hour sessions at an interval to be agreed with you. This would usually be weekly. I can work with individuals and couples. I work with a range of issues including but not limited to the following:

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • bereavement

  • relational difficulties

  • life stage difficulties

  • work difficulties

  • parenting difficulties

  • responses to trauma.

Education and Child Psychology

Do you have worries about your child and their education? As an Education and Child Psychologist, I can offer support for a variety of concerns, including, but not limited to:

  • support for children who have experienced disruption to their main attachment relationships through bereavement or family breakdown

  • support for children presenting with neurodivergence, for example, autism or ADHD

  • support for children who have experienced trauma

  • struggles with attending school

  • worries about academic achievement

  • difficulties with concentration

  • struggles with friendships and social skills

  • difficulties with behaviour and following school's policies

  • support for children who have developmental learning needs

  • and many more issues - if your concern is not listed above, please call me to discuss what I can offer and whether I can support you.

I will offer face-to-face sessions to discuss your child's needs. Sometimes this may be with parents and other times I may suggest that I meet with you and your child. Following discussions I will work with you to consider strategies to help with your concerns. Over time, it is important to review these strategies and solutions to ensure that they are continuing to be helpful. With your permission, I could also visit your child at school and talk with staff. â€‹If you are working with other professionals, such as, a paediatrician or Speech and Language Therapist, I can also provide written reports of our work, if required.

You could also contact your school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and look at the Local Offer on your local authority's website. If they are not able to help you, please contact me and we can discuss what I can offer.

Supervision

Supervision is a vital strand of support and professional development for all of us working in a role with other people. I consider the supervisee to be a colleague. I offer a safe space where you can have an opportunity to reflect on your work and gain greater understanding of yourself and the relationships with those with whom you work. The purpose is to support you and enable you to continue in often challenging roles, and make a difference in your work. I take a holistic, respectful approach and use the relationship between us to support you in your reflections and professional development. The process involves, reflective practice, case consultation, personal support, ethical consideration and personal validation.

I offer regular sessions for individuals or groups at intervals to suit the participants. These meetings are for a minimum of 1 hour but longer sessions can be discussed as needed.
